My quiet time was good this morning. Not that it isn't always, for it is always good. But this morning, two of my readings really spoke to me and troubled me as well. I spent a lot of time in prayer over what I read. What was it about?
It was about people turning their backs on God, and yet still expecting Him to bless them in all they do. Sometimes my kids will call me with 'Mom, can you pray, cause you have a direct line to God'. Not true, but God and I DO have a relationship. I don't always get what I ask for either, for sometimes I, too, ask amiss. But, getting back to what is on my mind, sometimes we expect all that we do to be successful. And when it isn't, we blame God (or others) because we didn't get what we wanted in the time frame we wanted it in. So we go deeper into sin, doing things our own way, expecting better answers, and never receiving them. Does that make sense?
My heart is grieving this morning over some things. I won't go into detail on here, but God knows my heart and He and I have spent a lot of time talking about it this morning. The bottom line is, until you acknowledge God as Lord, and choose to follow Him, you can never truly be successful in this life. I think the fear of going to hell should do it, but many still choose to lead themselves, their spouses, their children, in a downward spiral because they are angry with God. Oh they may have some things go right, they may be successful in some endeavors, their jobs, or even in other things that they do. But I truly believe that unless you are following God, you need not expect to receive the abundant blessings He has for those who love Him, and who follow Him.
Some people 'think' they are blessed when good things happen; and perhaps they are. But are they blessed by God, or by the choices they made? One can say they have been 'blessed' by God because they get a job they went after. And that may be true. But what happens after that? If they don't give God the glory for it, and thank Him for it, how do you think that job is going to go? Sometimes when we think something is what we want, the responsibility and the time taken from things we want to do - sometimes isn't a blessing. It becomes a burden and we want more.
Just my mind going off on a tangent because my heart is grieving over a situation. But perhaps my ramblings will give you cause to sit back and think about where you place God in your life, in your family. Is He number One? He should be. Anything we put before God is idolatry. God says so. In the first commandment He says -
Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before Me.
God created you. He breathed life into your lungs. He has rescued you throughout your entire life. He has cared for you. He has listened to prayers for you. He loves you so much that He gave His one and only Son to die for you.
Does that mean anything to you? Are you putting jobs before Him? Are you putting friends before Him? Are you putting your family before Him? Are you putting 'things' before Him? Those are your idols you are putting before Him. Anything you put before God, is an idol.
Not pointing fingers, for I have three fingers pointing back at me. That situation is so easy to fall into - believe me! Sometimes I put 'self' before Him. And that is why I fall on my face. When I feel overwhelmed. When I allow anxiety or depression to take over. Those things are NOT of God! God is our Healer! He heals our body when we ask Him. God is our Hope! He listens to us and sees our needs and He is our Provider - He provides all that we need. Oh that all our eyes and hearts would be opened to Him and our ears attuned to His voice!
I cannot impress on you enough that you (we) need God desperately. Until we are desperate for Him, we find it easy to put Him aside as if He is nothing and has no part in our lives. God GAVE you that life - and you can't find the time to honor and respect Him? You don't teach your children to love Jesus? Do you want to take your children to the hell that you are going to by not putting God first? Fathers (and mothers) are to be the Spiritual leaders in their homes. Who has taken on that responsibility? Anyone?
Oh I will probably get some feedback on what I've written, but it is heavy on my heart this morning. I'm not 'calling' anyone out - I have friends who say they are Christians and yet live their own lives like there is no God. He's a good 'back-drop' for them when they need Him. I have family members who do the same thing. I have even probably done it myself - and if so, shame on me. God forgive me, if I have. God is NOT a back-drop. He is the DOOR to living waters, to life.
John 14:6 (NKJV): Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
My very anguished prayer is that any one reading this will reflect on where they have placed God in their lives, and will turn to Him and repent of their wicked ways, and will choose to follow Jesus. He is the only way.
Blessings!
